Privacy Policy
TwoFour Retro Labs · Last updated October 1, 2026
This page says what My Room (myroomweb.com) saves about you, who can see it, and what never leaves your own device. It's written to be read, not skimmed past.
The short version
- You join with a screen name, not your real name. An email address is optional.
- What you post in shared places (chat rooms, the Community Boards, your profile, your room, photos and videos you make Public) can be seen by other signed-in members.
- 411s and letters can be read only by you and the person you sent them to, and by TwoFour staff when needed to run and moderate the site.
- We don't show ads, and we don't sell or share your information for advertising.
What we save when you make a screen name
- Your screen name and password. Your password is stored in scrambled (hashed) form by our sign-in provider. We can't see it.
- An email address, if you give one. It's optional, and other members never see it.
- Your headline, mood and page theme from sign-up.
Sign-up also asks for a first name, a birthday and a location. Your birthday is not saved: it's used on your device to work out your zodiac sign and whether to show the under-13 question. Your first name, location and zodiac sign are put into your starter profile page, which other members can see once it's saved. You can edit or clear them in Edit My Profile.
What we save as you use My Room
- Your room: walls, floors, furniture, windows and any posters you upload.
- Your profile page: picture, interests, blurbs, Top 8 and colors.
- Your allowance, what you've bought from the catalog and your room size.
- Chat room messages you post, with your screen name and the time.
- 411s (instant messages) and letters you send and receive.
- Sticky notes you leave on other members' walls.
- Community Boards posts and Community Dropbox notes and votes.
- Photos and videos you switch to Public.
- Your Buddy List and buddy requests. Buddies are mutual: one of you sends a request and the other accepts. Signed-in members who visit your profile can see who your buddies are in your Friend Space. Requests are seen only by the two members involved.
- Your block list, 411 warnings given and received, and reports you send or that are sent about you.
- Parental Controls settings, if a grown-up sets them. The PIN is stored scrambled.
- Small settings: Favorite Places, Buddy List colors, and the radio station your boombox is tuned to.
- Whether you're a My Room Plus member. Plus members have a gold + next to their screen name, which other signed-in members can see.
Other signed-in members can find you by searching for your screen name and can send you a buddy request, which you can accept or decline. While you're signed on, they can see that you're online and which chat room you're in.
What stays on your own device
- Private photos and videos. Every photo and video starts Private and is kept only in your browser. It is uploaded only if you switch it to Public, and switching it back to Private deletes the uploaded copy.
- Guests. If you look around as a guest, your room and settings are kept only in that browser.
- The list of people you've met in the last 24 hours.
My Room doesn't use advertising or tracking cookies. It uses your browser's storage to keep you signed in and to remember the things listed above.
Who can see what
- Other signed-in members can see your screen name, profile page, room, sticky notes on walls, public photos and videos, and what you post in chat rooms, on the Community Boards and in the Dropbox. Chat rooms marked Plus can be read only by Plus members.
- Only you and the other person can see a 411 or a letter.
- Only you can see your email address, allowance, block list, settings and Parental Controls.
- People who aren't signed in can't see members, rooms, chat or posts.
- Moderators can see anything that has been reported, including a reported photo, video or room, and can remove it.
- TwoFour staff who run the site can access what is stored on our servers, including 411s and letters, when that's needed to keep the service working, respond to reports, or deal with abuse.
Blocking a member hides you from each other: you come off each other's Buddy Lists, neither of you can find the other in search or visit the other's room, and they can't send you 411s, letters or sticky notes.
Payments
My Room Plus is paid for through Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe; My Room never sees or stores your card number. We keep a Stripe customer reference and whether your subscription is active. Stripe's own privacy policy covers what it does with payment information.
Companies that help run My Room
- Supabase stores accounts, rooms, messages and public photos and videos, and handles sign-in.
- Vercel serves the website.
- Stripe handles payments for Plus.
- PowerHitz.com and 181.FM provide the boombox's radio streams. When you turn the radio on, your browser connects to them directly, so they receive your device's internet address like any website you visit.
- Google Fonts and public code libraries (CDNs) deliver fonts and parts of the app to your browser, and receive your internet address when they do.
How long things are kept
Things you post stay until they're deleted. You can delete letters from your own mailbox, peel off sticky notes you wrote or that are on your walls, take back Dropbox notes, and switch a photo or video back to Private. Chat messages, 411s and Boards posts can't be deleted by members; a chat room shows only the last day of messages, but older ones remain stored. Removing something from your own view doesn't always remove the other person's copy: a letter you delete stays in the other member's mailbox until they delete it too.
Younger members and Parental Controls
Sign-up asks anyone who says they are under 13 to confirm that a parent or guardian says it's OK to join. My Room has Parental Controls that a grown-up can set and lock with a PIN: limiting or turning off chat rooms, 411s and mail, keeping photos and videos private, and limiting time per visit. The chat rooms also block phone numbers and email addresses from being posted.
If you are a parent or guardian and want your child's account or information removed, email twofourretrolabs@gmail.com.
Your choices
- Edit or clear your profile at any time in Edit My Profile.
- Keep photos and videos Private.
- Block members, and report anything that isn't OK.
- Ask us to delete your account. Deleting an account removes your profile, room, chat messages, 411s and letters you sent or received, sticky notes, public photos and videos, and settings from our servers. Community Boards posts you wrote stay on the Boards under your screen name unless you ask for them to be removed too.
Contact
To ask a question, request a copy or deletion of your information, or report a privacy concern, email twofourretrolabs@gmail.com. Parents and guardians can use the same address. Members can also sign on and use Member Services › Report a Problem, which goes to TwoFour staff.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top will change and important changes will be announced on the Welcome screen's bulletin.
